There have been an increase in overdose calls in the community. The St. Mary's County Health Department Harm Reduction/Overdose Response Program will provide training to community members at the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Training is open to anyone who would like to learn:
- How opioids impact the brain and body
- How to recognize the signs and symptoms of opioid overdose
- How to administer naloxone
- How to care for someone who is having an overdose until emergency help arrives
Participants receive a free rescue kit that includes naloxone (Narcan®), a life-saving medication that may be able to restore the breathing of a person who has overdosed on opioids (e.g., heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, methadone, etc.).
Who Should Participate in the Overdose Response Program?
- Anyone and everyone who wants to learn about naloxone (Narcan®). Families are welcome.
