| On Sunday, July 26th, Ambulance 497 held EMS standby for the Special Olympics Maryland's Mid-Summer Classic held at St. Mary's College of Maryland. This is a two-day competition featuring the sports of sailing, kayaking and volleyball, with athletes from all over the state of Maryland competing.
The crew from A497 had riverside seats for the water events. It was a hot, but beautiful, day for the Classic. The only medical care provided was the removal of a splinter from the toe of an athlete. Just as the events were coming to a close, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued. Lightning was visible in the area as last minute kayakers scrambled to clear the water. The final awards ceremony was moved indoors just as the winds and rain started.
The Ridge VRS would like to congratulate all the winners and participants. Job well done.
