| On 22May11, at 2304, Ridge VRS was alerted to the area of Point Lookout Road and Old Statehouse Road (St. Mary's City) for a motor vehicle crash with injuries with the vehicle on fire. Ambulance 496 responded shortly after the tones dropped. Ridge VFD Rescue Engine 42, Tanker 4, Engine 44, along with NAS Engine 141, Bay District VFD Squad 3, Lexington Park VRS A397, and Medic 291 also responded. Ridge VFD Safety 4 and Lt 4 arrived on scene and reported a single vehicle well off with one patient out of the vehicle. The fire crews from Engine 141 and Rescue Engine 42 quickly extinguished the fire, which was in the engine compartment. The patient was able to remove himself from the vehicle before it caught fire. Due to the injuries sustained and mechanism of the injury (multiple roll-overs, large intrusion to the drivers compartment, and unknown restraint use), it was determined that the patient should be flown to Prince George's Shock Trauma as a Category "C", Priority 2. A medical consult with St. Mary's Hospital and PG Shock Trauma confirmed the fly-out. Trooper 7 responded and the patient was in the air within 15 minutes. Photos courtesy of John Douglass. |
