Working House Fire with One Trapped Inside

On June 26th, Ridge VRS was alerted for the reported house fire with a subject trapped in the area of Lawrence Street in St. Inigoes. This was the second call for RVRS in 10 minutes. Within minutes of dispatch, A497 and Utility 49 (Chief Gatton) responded. NDWFD Engine 141 arrived on the scene first and advised of smoke showing, confirming the working house fire. Upon their arrival, the occupant was already outside of the residence, alive but confused. RVRS Rapid Responders LT Merrell and LT Barickman were the first EMS providers on the scene and immediately began treating the patient. U49 and A497 arrived and assisted with patient care. The home occupant was not burned, but had inhaled soot and smoke. The patient stated she had gone in and out of the burning house several times to look for her dog. Crews from A388 and U39 came on scene and began rehab'ing the multiple firefighters on the scene. After the fire was extinguished, the firefighters began a search of the house and surroundings for the missing dog, which was later found alive and well at a neighbors house. The homeowner refused transportation to the hospital against medical advice. The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced victim with a place to stay.
