Beginning in early October, the Ridge VFD and Ridge VRS began planning a multi-department drill consisting of the Ridge VFD, Ridge VRS and NASFD -- Webster Field. Preliminary details for the drill consisted of a two vehicle, T-Bone style accident with four patients. Injuries were to be consistent with what's expected to be seen in this style of collision, with a few additional injuries thrown in the mix. On 11/16 at approximately 1700, 'victims' and drill coordinators began meeting at the rescue squad building to prepare for the drill and go over final details. After the victims were moulaged and preparations were complete, they were ushered to the Ridge VFD carnival grounds where the drill was to be held. At 1850, Co's 4, 14 and 49 were dispatched to the rear of the Ridge VFD Carnival Grounds for a reported personal injury accident. Squad 4 (Capt. Langley) was first on the scene reporting two vehicles in a T-Bone style collision with heavy damage. E141 (Capt. Wilson) arrived shortly behind them and began stabilizing vehicles and assessing damage. Chief 4A (Raley) and A497 (EMT/IVT Ketner) were next arriving and began triaging all four patients. Chief 4A established the "Ridge" command. Upon the initial assessment by FD personnel, a helicopter was requested for a Category Alpha, Priority 1 pregnant female who was unconscious in the back of a passenger car. E43 (Lt. Trossbach) was next arriving, assisting with patient care and extrication. A498 (EMT Lowe) arrived next and assumed care of the patients in the minivan. Extrication and treatment were difficult due to the nature of the collision. The van was on top of the drivers side of the passenger vehicle, making access to the driver of the passenger vehicle difficult. A496 (EMT/IVT Turner) arrived last and assisted with patient care on the other two patients. In total, three helicopters were requested and one patient was "transported by ground" to a local trauma center.
