Positive Behavioral Intervention System Celebration at Ridge Elementary
By EMT-B / IV Tech Scot Best
April 30, 2010
On Thursday, April 29, various pieces of emergency vehicles and apparatus visited the students of Ridge Elementary School. The activities were for the Ridge Elem students who displayed good behavior for the month of April, as found in their Positive Behavioral Intervention System (PBIS). The students ranged from 4 years old (Pre-K) to 10 years (5th grade), for a total of approximately 260 kids! The event started with a parade of the emergency response vehicles, headed by a Maryland State Trooper cruiser, followed by a St. Mary's County Sheriff's cruiser, Ridge VFD Engine 43 and Brush 4, and Ridge VRS Ambulance 499. All units "responded" lights and sirens into the Ridge Elem bus parking lot. The students were very excited. Once parked, the students rotated from station to station learning about the various jobs and activities associated with each vehicle. The students loved being able climb in and on all the vehicles. The students also had the chance to watch the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department K-9 Demo Team.
Members of the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad attending this function were: EMT/IV Tech Scot Best, EMT Damien Best, EMT Candice Best, EMT Suzie Medley, and Member Lynn Klug.
