On Tuesday evening, May 27th, the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad hosted a basic first aid demonstration for nine (9) girls from the Girl Scout Brownies Troop. RVRS President Ed Pratt explained how to recognize an emergency, what should be done in an emergency situation, how to provide short-term care prior to the arrival of an ambulance and the correct way to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on non-responsive patients. The Brownies also enjoyed a guided tour of the rescue squad building, the inside of the ambulances and the equipment used during 911 calls. With assistance from Assistant Chief Christy Merrell and Lieutenant/Secretary David Morris, each girl experienced the feeling of being loaded into the back of the ambulance while on the stretcher. They even got to experience a short ride (through the parking lot) in the back of an ambulance!

The RVRS appreciates this opportunity to share our knowledge with the Girl Scout Brownies. While emergency situations can be scary (for children, especially), it helps if they have basic training to better understand what is going on around them in their time of need.
